I’ve been doing some research…

…and am finding that the human brain is a funny thing. We often keep things to ourselves because we don’t want others to know whatever it is we’re feeling or what we’ve been through. This is our way of not letting others get too close to us. Usually these are conscious choices we’ve made in order to protect ourselves from getting hurt.

However, I don’t understand how it is that we can keep things from ourselves in the first place. How is it that we can hide the truth about ourselves from ourselves? And how do our minds choose what to reveal to us and what to hide from us?

What are some things that you have found over the course of time that you were hiding from yourself? How did you discover these things? Did someone tell you or were the memories triggered by an event?
